Match Preview – Sri Lanka vs New Zealand – Champions Trophy 2017 (Warm-Up)
The 2nd last practice match of ICC Cricket Champions Trophy 2017 is scheduled to be played between Sri Lank and New Zealand at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham. Both these teams have lost their opening match during the current scenario. Although the players from both these teams are in form, but they are lacking some experience at English pitches.
In the 1st warm up match, Sri Lanka faced Australia and that was a very breath taking game at the end when Aussies reached near chasing the target. Sri Lanka bat first in that match, Niroshan scored 41 runs playing just 30 balls. Upul Tharanga and Kusal Mendis failed to deliver and diverted pressure on the middle order batting lineup.
The Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews played a sensational and excellent innings of 95 runs that helped Sri Lanka to get back to the position and divert pressure on the opposition. Asela Gunaratne also did a great job scoring 70 not out against Australian bowlers, while Seekkuge Prasana only able to score 30 runs and that too in the death overs.
Opposition next to Sri Lanka, the New Zealand team disappointed their fans as they gave up against India in the 3rd warm up match. Performance by the Kiwis’ top end batsmen was not up to the mark. Martin Guptill only scored 9 runs went back to the pavilion, while Luke Ronchi played responsible innings of 66 runs. Captain Kane Williamson along with Neil Brom could not even enter in the double figures.
This is how New Zealanders failed to score sensible total, even their bowlers also failed in performance as they were continuously failing in picking up the wickets. Although the rain interrupted the play and India won that match using D/L method and they deserved that too.
