The Sri Lankan openers contributed the 49-Run partnership to their team, but Tharanga went back to the pavilion on the ball of Hazlewood scoring just 13 runs, while Dickwell scored 41 runs against Australia. The top order somehow failed as compare to the pitch conditions, but the middle batting lineup helped the team to rebuild.
Mendis did not even enter in the double figures as he scored only 5 runs, Chandimal scored 17 runs playing 22 balls. The captain did a great job beyond the expectations as he returned to the ODI format of cricket after a long time, but he proved his talent once again scoring 95 runs. Unfortunately he could not complet his century, but his performance helped the team to stand again.
Kapugedera scored marvelous 70 runs facing 56 balls only. He also played a stunning innings with the strike rate of 125.00 and that was really helpful innings by the young man. This is how the entire Sri Lankan team played the complete 50 overs and set the target of 319 runs.
