This group will be decided after the game between India and Australia and this game will not have any effect on the team standings. If New Zealand win they will keep their winning momentum going and if Bangladesh win they will have something to cheer about at last.
Bangladesh have fought hard throughout the tournament but have failed to turn the results in their favor. They came really close to winning it against India in their last game but they could not hold their nerves in the last 3 balls and lost 3 wickets on the trot, losing it by 1 run in the end. So, if they have to win it against the best side in the Group 2 so far in this tournament then they will really have to bring the best out of them to get over the line. Players like Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan have all had times when they batted brilliantly in this tournament and this time they will have to make full use of their abilities to take up the Kiwi challenge and come good together on the day.
As for the Bangladesh bowling, Mustafizur Rahman has been the most impressive of the lot ever since he has made his comeback in last couple of matches. Even in the last match, he picked up 2 for 34 and bowled really well in his last spell particularly. Al-Amin also picked up 2 wickets while Shuvagata, Shakib and Mahmudullah were also amongst wickets. But they will have to plan well ahead of the New Zealand challenge if they really want to win it against a batting side that rattled the best bowling line in their last game.
New Zealand played their best cricket in the last match against Pakistan where they took a strong bowling line to attack right from the start. Martin Guptill is their basher at the top and he gets good support from Kane Williamson who scores at a brisk pace as well. Guptill played an 80 runs knock against Pakistan which really hurt them badly in the end. So, if Guptill manages to play a good one here as well then New Zealand are certainly going to cruise Bangladesh in this important game. In the middle order they have Munro, Anderson and Ross Taylor who have played some good innings lately as well. Taylor was 36* in the last game and can play a crucial role today as well.
As for their bowling, it’s their spinners who are doing some great work in the middle overs. Both Santner and Sodhi have taken wickets and have bowled economically as well. Adam Milne was also quite disciplined in the last match as he picked up 2 for 26. So, let’s see what they come up with against Bangladesh.
Mashrafe has lead Bangladesh well in this tournament but he hasn’t been able to pick up a single victory yet. Let’s see if he can pull one for them today.
It’s 3 out of 3 so far, and it may become 4 out of 4 today. A cherishing stat for a captain! However, a big innings is still due on him.
- Match Predictions
