The ICC World T20I is progressing towards its end but still there is a lot to come and some big matches are left in the tournament. As for the Group 1 of ICC World T20I 2016, it’s pretty much wide open and still any team can make it to the semi-finals except for Afghanistan who have lost all of their matches played so far. Let’s take a look at Team Positions in Group 1.
T20 World Cup 2016 Points Table & Team Standing
West Indies have played 2 games so far in the Super 10 round and they have won both of them. Currently they are placed at the top of the group with 4 points and have the strongest NRR i.e. +0.893. They have the best chance of qualifying for the semis and only 1 win from here can really clear the road for them now.
At the moment, England is placed on the second spot in the Group 1 having won 2 matches out of 3 that they have played so far. They also have 4 points and their NRR is +0.018. Though they’re currently placed at number 2 in the Group but their chances of qualifying for the semis are least considering the fact that all teams that are still in contention have 2 games each left for them and England have just 1.
South Africa are currently placed 3rd in the Group 1 and have 2 points after winning 1 match out of 2. It’s their NRR (+0.816) that has placed them ahead of Sri Lanka at the moment. Let’s see where they end up after their last couple of matches. Nevertheless, the best chance for South Africa to qualify for the semi-finals would be by winning both their matches that are left in this round.
Sri Lanka are placed 4th in Group 1 at the moment with a NRR of -0.171 having won only 1 of their 2 matches so far. They also have 2 games to play yet and this could easily turn into their favor and their best chance also to qualify for semis is to win both of them. It could be either them or South Africa, but that’s yet to be decided in next few days.
